On 21st March 2018, NSS unit of Salesian College of Higher Education observed the ‘World Forest Day’ by organising a social work to containing soil erosion at Dhansiri river bank. The programme started with a short exhortation by Fr. Dr. Policarp the Principal of Salesian College of Higher Education. The volunteers were divided into two groups for constructing bamboo barricades at the soil erosion site.
About eighty (80) NSS volunteers along with the programme officer, Dr. Avinuo Chupuo and co-ordinators Miss Lomi Sema and Yangvungthung Kikon participated in the program. The volunteers made bamboo barricades along the river bank to prevent further soil erosion and also planted bamboos for generating vegetation along the river.
