The faculty of Salesian College of Higher Education along with the faculty of Don Bosco College Kohima attended six (6) days residential Workshop on “Going beyond the Text Book” – a Counselling program for mentoring and promoting resiliency among college students conducted by Siloam at the Siloam Transformational Leadership Resource Centre from April 30-May 5, 2018. There were twenty-five (25) participants for the workshop.

Sessions were conducted by Fr. Dr. George Palamathattil, Director, Siloam and Br. Dr. Albert Longley Dkhar, Principal St. Anthony’s College Shillong. Sessions were filled with practical teaching and learning methods. The faculty was taught basic counselling and mentoring techniques. Fr. George a professional psychologist dealt on the practical and theoretical psycho-social development of young adults who constitute the students of the colleges and counselling techniques that a teacher needs to possess. Br. Albert powerfully illustrated the teaching methods to bring out the best from the students. He said, the learning has to be student centric. He also pointed out the crisis the young people are going through due to the sudden explosion of media especially the internet. He emphasised on creation and expression of knowledge rather than repression. He stressed on the need for presence of faculty among the students.
